OCD Thoughts
There are many different people who suffer from OCD. OCD or obsessive compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder. With OCD the individual normally has fears that cause them to act out the obsessive behaviors. This varies from patient to patient and the manor of their obsessive compulsive behavior also varies. There are many different OCD thoughts that an individual suffering with OCD might have. Some of the thoughts that might go through their heads are as follows:
• A person with a fear of germs might have thoughts that make them think that they need to wash their hands over and over to get the germs off of them.
• A person who is scared of someone harming them may have thoughts of feeling like they need to constant check to make sure the door is locked so that no one comes in and inflicts harm on them. These are just a few of the different fears and thoughts that might exist with a patient who is suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder.
There are many different OCD treatments that can help in controlling these thoughts. Some of the treatments are natural and other treatments are medical treatments that are designed to help with the thoughts. You will need to decide if you are looking to take a natural approach to treatment or if you would rather be treated by the medical field for you obsessive compulsive disorder.
If you are looking to go through the medical treatments then you should know what they normally consist of. This will probably consist of a regimen of medication or it may consist of OCD psychotherapy. These two treatments that are designed to help with thoughts might also be used in conjunction with each other to allow the patient to get the greatest benefit from the treatments for thoughts. The psychotherapy is supposed to help the individual retrain the thoughts by getting them familiar with the OCD and their fears.
In other words with the psychotherapy the patients would be faced with their fears. This could be directly or through videos at first to get them used to the fear itself. It may come a time when say for example someone has been in treatment for a long time for germs. At some point that individual would need to touch something that they feared hard germs without washing their hand immediately followed. This is a way of retraining the OCD thoughts that the individual has.
There are also many different natural treatments that an individual can use to help with their thoughts. These treatments could involve hypnosis, self help books, or even herbal remedies. There are many herbal remedies that people claim to have great success with. The great thing about these is that they don’t have all the major side effects that can be harmful to your body. As for the self help books these are a great way at learning more about OCD and also helping to retrain your thoughts on your own . The only problem that many seem to have with self help treatments is the lack of motivation to get through the treatments. When you are taking medical treatments there is someone there normally to encourage you along the way.
You will want to get a support group together with either for of treatments that you choose to go through with. Many times it will help to talk with others who have been there so you can support each other and discuss your thoughts from time to time. It will also be good because of the fact that when you feel like giving up there are others there who have been there too who can tell you to push forward and also keep letting you know that tomorrow will be better.
You should also know that when you are starting medication for OCD symptoms whether it is conventional medication or herbal remedies you should expect it to take about three weeks for you to start seeing noticeable effects from your medication. Many people will get frustrated by the lack of instant results and they will stop taking medication before it is even given the right amount of time to help with their thoughts. After they feel the medication or herbal remedies have failed them they stop trying. This is not good for the individual or their loved ones. If you are suffering from OCD then you should be sure to give the medications at least 3 weeks before stopping.
The great news if that will all these treatments available you don’t have to find yourself suffering with thoughts anymore. It is important for the treatment to work as well as it can that the patients family also be involved in the treatment. If the patient is involving family in their rituals then it is important for the family to know that while the patient is trying to get better it might be a good idea not to take part in the rituals at all. It may also be suggested to just cut back on the amount of taking part in the rituals that the family or family member has been doing. With all the different treatments that are out there to help with OCD thoughts it is very likely that each patient will find at least one treatment that is right for them and helps in treating their obsessive compulsive disorder.
You should also be aware that not every treatment works for every individual. Something that works for your friend who is suffering with OCD is not necessarily going to work for you. This is because everyone has a different body chemistry make up. You should also know that there are other illnesses such as Tourette syndrome, otherwise known as TICS, that can have some of the same symptoms as OCD does. TICS can be brought on by strep throat. This being said just because you may suffer from symptoms much like OCD symptoms this does not mean that you have OCD or that the OCD treatment is going to work for you if you are suffer from a different illness. This is why proper diagnosis is so important in the treatment.
