You should be aware the Tourette syndrome may mimic obsessive compulsive disorder. Tourette syndrome can be brought on by strep throat. This does not mean that every individual will get strep throat and then get Tourette but some patients do. Should you child or loved one start distributing actions that seem like obsessive compulsive disorder shortly after having contracted strep throat, then you should be sure to rule out Tourette syndrome first.

If you feel like you or someone you know may have OCD it will be important to have them get checked out by a doctor for a proper diagnosis. It will also be important that the family be involved with the treatment plan as much as possible. Many people will feel that OCD is the fault of the person who is suffering with it. This however is not true and the family should be careful not to make the individual feel that the obsessive compulsive disorder is their fault. However, they should also be careful not to let the person suffering think that they are going to aid them in their rituals. Even children suffer from OCD symptoms!
